14 June 1959 - 'Correio da Manhã' introduces Sandy Lee to their readers saying she married a Brazilian citizen in the USA and moved here. They say she plays the guitar very well...

  1. I never could imagine to see Sandy Lee again. Also I never knew she lived here due to a marriage with the brother of a very known band leader, Ruy Rei. I was a boy and I remember to have seen the album cover and some news about her.But although very kind, the good will about the Brazilian music,BEFORE BOSSA NOVA,after all- she wan't that good as a singer...I haDn'the faintest idea about what ever happened to her.But I do remember that the state-owned Radio Nacional fired many singers after the 1964 military take over. She was on the list, not for political reasons, like the was the case of many others. Then not a single note about her.Anyway how kind she was to our music.

    1. Dear Anonymous, I am delighted to hear from someone who actually KNEW Sandy Lee. 15 or 20 years ago, a friend of a friend gave me a batch of vinyl albums he discarded... one of them was this Musidisc LP with Sandy Lee. I was flabbergasted with the 'novelty'. I had never heard Maysa's 'Ouça' & other 1958-1959 Brazilian hits sung in ENGLISH by someone originating from the USA. I agree with you that Sandy wasn't THAT good singer but the record itself was amazingly interesting... especially Ataulpho Alves''Vai, vai mesmo'(Go, please leave me)... Then I started digging every bit of information I could get about such a luminary... and I ended up knowing a lot about her. I only wish to know Sandy's real name; her NATIONALITY (I suspect she's POLISH); her date-of-birth and her obituary (I suppose Sandy must be dead by now, 2020).
